    Do you still have questions?

    What is biosolar?

Biosolar technology for roofs, also called biosolar roofing, is an approach that combines the benefits of solar energy and vegetation on the same roof.

A biosolar roof generally consists of photovoltaic solar panels integrated with a green roof system (or vegetated roof). The solar panels capture solar energy and convert it into electricity, while vegetation is grown on the roof to provide environmental and aesthetic benefits. Integrating solar panels on a green roof has several advantages. First, solar panels produce clean electricity from solar energy, helping to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the vegetation on the roof provides additional thermal insulation, helping to reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling buildings.

The green roof also offers ecological benefits by promoting urban biodiversity, reducing the urban heat island effect, and contributing to stormwater management. Plants absorb rainwater, thus reducing runoff and helping to prevent flooding. Moreover, they filter air pollutants, improving air quality in urban areas.

What are the differences between a biosolar roof and Oasis BioSolar?

Oasis BioSolar is a hydro biosolar roof that performs 3 functions: energy production, stormwater management, and contribution to biodiversity. These functions are enhanced through their synergy.
    • Water/Biodiversity Synergy: The Oasis system captures rainwater drained by the vegetation complex. It returns it to the plants through capillary wicks. The additional water reserve provided by the Oasis system (50 to 70% more than a classic system) benefits the plants and allows for greater plant diversity.
    • Water/Energy Synergy: On classic solar power plants, the electrical production of photovoltaic panels is limited during periods of high heat to avoid overheating. The enhanced evaporation of the Oasis system reduces the temperature under the panels, thus allowing increased energy production.
    • Energy/Biodiversity Synergy: In return for the cooling that solar panels benefit from via water evaporation, they allow vegetation to enjoy shaded areas. These favor the development of diverse flora and a privileged living space for certain insects, gastropods, and arthropods. The vegetation on biosolar roofs develops around the panels and partially underneath, depending on the inclination and orientation of the panels. It should be low enough not to shade the panels, and regular maintenance is necessary to prevent the development of species that are too tall.

Why is Oasis BioSolar a Response to New Regulatory Requirements?

Article L 171-4 of the Construction and Housing Code stipulates that 'buildings or parts of buildings [...] for commercial, industrial or artisanal use, warehouse constructions, [...] constructions of buildings or parts of buildings for office use [...] must incorporate either a renewable energy production process, a vegetation system [...] promoting the preservation and reconquest of biodiversity, or any other device [...] promoting [...] rainwater infiltration or evaporation.'

In this sense, the Oasis BioSolar hydro biosolar roof provides a concrete response. Indeed, the system optimizes water resources for the benefit of flora and fauna. The vegetation and photovoltaic panels create shaded spaces, a refuge for biodiversity. The solar panels intercept rainwater which will be stored and returned to the plants through capillary wicks. In addition, the evaporation from the vegetation complex helps cool the photovoltaic panels, thus optimizing their electrical yield.

How is the Biosolar Roof Implemented?

The Oasis BioSolar system has been designed for simplified installation in 7 steps:
    1. Assembly of hydrostock trays.
    2. Installation of Modulo plates on the trays.
    3. Fixing of rails on the plates.
    4. Mounting of feet in the rails.
    5. Spreading of the substrate.
    6. Installation of vegetation.
    7. Assembly of photovoltaic panels and Oasis BioSolar connection.
